The Ballon d’Or will not be awarded in 2020

The annual Ballon d’Or award which honours the best football players in the world will not take place in 2020, France Football the magazine behind the award have announced.

For women the first award was handed out in 2018, with Norwiegan Ada Hegerberg the striker of Olympique Lyonnais, becoming the inaugural winner and with US Women’s national team and OL Reign striker Megan Rapinoe as the second winner in 2019.

“There will be no edition in 2020, because it turns out, after thoughtful consideration, that all the conditions are not met,” Pascal Ferre, editor-in-chief of France Football, said in a statement.

On the men’s side it’s gonna be the first time since the prize was introduced in 1956 that it will not be awarded.
