Tony Gustavsson has previously, among other things, been the assistant coach to the US Women’s National Team (USWNT) former head coach Jill Ellis when the USWNT won two straight World Cup gold medals in 2015 and 2019.
Right now the 47-year-old has a role as an individual coach in the Swedish club Hammarby for their men’s team and he will remain there until the contract expires at the end of the year.
Australia is ranked seventh in the world and in 2023 they will share the hosting of the World Cup with New Zealand.
“I have always said that “The Matildas” is a tough team to beat. They have the potential to be among the best in the world. I see enormous potential in this team,” says Gustavsson about his new team.
