The 26-year-old defender and Australian international Steph Catley has joined Arsenal from Melbourne City, the club has announced during the Thursday. Catley has previously played for Melbourne Victory and NWSL top clubs such as Portland Thorns FC, Orlando Pride and OL Reign. The experienced player has won the Australian W-League Championship five times she is also is the vice-captain of the Matildas and has done 82 caps for her country and has participated in two World Cups and one Olympics.
Catley told Arsenal Digital: “This is something that I’ve been looking forward to for a long time,…I’m so excited that it’s finally done. This will be my first taste of European football and obviously there’s so much to look forward to and so many big occasions to come. I can’t wait to get started.”
Fellow Aussie head coach Joe Montemurro said about the new signing: “We’re privileged to have Steph at the club,..She suits our fluidity and she’s very good in a positional sense, but more importantly she’s very effective going forwards, so we’re excited to have her as part of the squad and we’re looking forward to some exciting times together!”
